CATALOGUE SECTIONS SPLASH TOPPER

This area is located on the left-hand side of the ARC as you enter the room (a small number of books from the Religion & Theology category flow over to the left top shelf of the Anglican Parish area). Anglican World resourcess relate to the global Anglican community and its interests and traditions. Labels here are in the blue to purple colour range. Below are brief descriptions of the six subject categories and their letter codes, along with a sample of the labels used for each one.

 The label images show the colour for that subject category, with the subject code at top centre. The call number begins with the first letters of the author’s name, followed by the subject code and a number. The number allows the ARC to keep track of the books and resources in the collection.

Some books have no author listed and are shelved by a publisher’s acronym (i.e. ABC for Anglican Book Centre) or Na-/NA-. These books are shelved first in each subject category, followed by books shelved alphabetically by author. 

ANGLICAN LIFE LABEL

Anglican Life reflects institutional and doctrinal relationships within the worldwide Anglican Communion and between the Anglican Church and other Christian denominations. This includes books on current and past issues in the Anglican Church, Anglican and interdenominational reports, and general interest books about different aspects of Anglicanism. BIBLE STUDY LABEL

Bible Study contains single books on the Bible, and Bible Study series, dictionaries, and commentaries. Bible study series are coded by editor if there are multiple authors, so they remain in sequence on the shelves. There are books suitable for single readers, study groups, and/or both. Books for this section will be added in early 2024.

Church Seasons focuses on major periods of the Church year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. It also includes Bible Study and prayer resources written specifically for those seasons, as well as several other relevant works, such as those that are project-based.

History & Biography includes biographies of Church figures ancient, modern, and in-between. There are also histories of the wider Church from early days to the present as well as the Anglican Church of Canada, and local histories of churches in our own diocese. Some smaller resources are documents are related to noteworthy events in the ACC and the Anglican Communion.

Liturgy & Sacraments contains resources for participating in different aspects of church liturgy and preparing for sacraments such as Baptism and Confirmation. Viewpoints range from the theoretical to the practical. There are also documents related to the Anglican position on sacraments with reference to other denominations. Some resources focus on the role of the arts in liturgy

Religion & Theology resources are wide-ranging in scope and many would fall into the academic category. Theological topics range from those written from an Anglican perspective to others about the spirituality of world religions. Some delve into the relationship between science and religion; others look at the social and cultural aspects of religion.
